Transparency: what you should know

When converting PNG or WebP with transparency to JPG, transparent areas cannot be conserve. The tool detects it, displays a warning and paints an opaque background (white default, configurable) before encoding. A JPG with simulated transparency is never generated.

Privacy and technical limits

The conversion uses the browser's canvas API. The image is not uploaded nor is a external service. Files up to 25 MB, 16,384 px per side, and 64 megapixels are supported. EXIF metadata from the original (including date or camera) is not copied to the final file.

Browser Compatibility

JPG and PNG are encoded in all modern browsers. WebP needs support encoding: Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari include it, but the page checks actual support and disable the option if it is not available. EXIF orientation applies to decode in current browsers; In very old browsers a rotated photo can appear with the orientation of the original pixel.

Frequently asked questions

Does it also convert AVIF, GIF or HEIC images?

No. This tool accepts JPG, PNG and WebP. Formats such as animated GIF, SVG, AVIF or HEIC They are rejected with a clear message so as not to generate incomplete files or animations converted into a single image.

Is transparency preserved when converting to PNG or WebP?

Yes. The canvas maintains the alpha channel and the final file preserves the transparent areas. You can check this in the preview, which uses a checkered background.

Does conversion always reduce weight?

No. Converting is not synonymous with compressing: a PNG can weigh more than the source JPG and a high quality JPG can outperform a WebP. The page shows the actual size and the percentage, positive or negative.

Is quality lost when converting?

It depends on the destination. Lossy JPG and WebP can degrade details; PNG is lossless. Every lossy conversion starts from the file you upload, not an infinite copy, so Avoid repeating the process many times with the same result.

Can I also change the size?

Yes. The conversion maintains the original dimensions. If you also want to climb the image, use resize images.
